MALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES

TESTOSTERONE OR ANDROGEN

Functions

  1. It bring about puberty in male animal
  2. Essential for the secretion of spermatozoa
  3. Help in the dvelopment of secondary sexual characteristics in male animals
  4. Increase libido or sexual urge in male animals
  5. Maintenance of the right conditions for sperm formation.

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES

OESTROGEN OR ESTROGEN: This hormone is secreted by graffian follicle.

Function

  1. Bring about puberty in female animals
  2. Helps in secretion of ovules (ova)
  3. Essential for the development of secondary sexual characteristics in female animals.
  4. Brings about ovulation and oestrous or heat period
  5. Helps in development of mammary gland
  6. Help in mucus secretions in female tract .

PROGESTERONE

Function

  1. Essential for the implantation of the embryo in the uterus to form a foetus
  2. Help to set uterus for implantation
  3. Inhibits oestrus and ovulation activities
  4. Development of new follicles inhibited
  5. Pregnancy can be maintained

PLACENTAL PROGESTERONE

Functions

  1. Encourages development of foetus
  2. Allows for development of pregnancy
  3. Other embryo are prevented from being implanted after first implantation
  4. Alveoli in mammary gland will develop better
  5. Permits enlargement of the womb

Functions

  1. Encourages contrasction of womb thereby keeping the foetus in a proper shape
  2. Encourages the development and enlargement of the milk cistern.
