Sub-Topic 1: MEANING OF RIGHTS AND DUTIES WITH EXAMPLES

  Rights are claims of individuals as citizens of a country. These rights include:

  1. Right to life;
  2. Right to personal liberty;
  3. Right to fair hearing;
  4. Right to dignity of human person;
  5. Right to education;
  6. Right to freedom of association;
  7. Freedom to vote and to be voted for during election; etc.

Duties on the other hand, are the obligations and actions which are expected from citizens in return for the rights of freedom they enjoy as citizen of a country. For example it is our duty as citizens:

  1. To pay taxes and other levies promptly;
  2. To vote during election;
  3. To obey the law of the country
  4. Having respect and obedience to oneself, the community and the government.
  5. To maintain peace and order in the State.
  6. Obeying the Laws of the State.
  7. Enlisting in the armed forces when military service is compulsory to defense one’s Nation.
  8. Protecting the good name of one’s country.
