FUNGUS DISEASES

Aspergillosis:

It is an airborne disease that affects all domestic animals.

Mode of Transmission

  1. Mouldy feed
  2. Mouldy litter
  3. Contaminated equipment or tools

Signs and Symptoms

  1. Loss of  appetite
  2. Loss of weight
  3. Difficulty in breathing in poultry
  4. Abortion in cattle

Prevention and Control

  1. Avoid mouldy feeds
  2. Avoid mouldy litters
  3. Avoid overcrowding
  4. Use of mould inhibitors and Toxin binders

Mycotoxicosis

It affects all animals.

Mode of Transmission

  1. Mouldy feed
  2. Contaminated water

Signs and Symptoms

  1. Stunted growth
  2. Haemorragias

Prevention and Control

  1. Avoid mouldy feeds
  2. Use mould inhibitors
  3. Use Toxin binders

 Ringworm

It affects all forms of animals

Mode of Transmission

  1. Through infected animals

Signs and Symptoms

  1. Lesions on the skin of affected animals
  2. Falling off of hair
  3. Scab on the combs and wattle of Infected birds with grey patches

Prevention and Control

  1. Good hygiene
  2. Isolate infected animals
  3. Scrap the surface and treat with iodine

 Scabies

It affects cattle, sheep and goat

Mode of Transmission

  1. Contact with affected animals
  2. Contact with the bedding materials
  3. Housing of animals in infected houses
