SUB – TOPIC: 1. UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS, NATIONAL INTEGRITY AND NATIONAL UNITY
- National Consciousness:
National consciousness is the awareness that one belongs to an ethnic or political nation. It is also a feeling of necessary social cohesion which establishes a unique character, image and identity for a nation.
National Consciousness demands the following:
- The existence of an ethnic or politically created group within a given geographical territory.
- Well-feeling originating from mental and emotional bond and cultural affiliation.
- Sense of patriotism and love for the identified group and strong desire for its corporate existence.
- Willingness to pay the prize for the sustenance of the group’s interests, norms, values and cultural orientations.
- Giving total allegiance to the nation and obedience to the constitution and constituted authorities.
- Readiness to stand against external aggression and internal divisions and injustices.
- Contributing one’s effort to sustain and strengthen the economic and social base of the nation.
