SUB TOPIC 1: REASONS FOR MAINTAINING FARM MACHINE
The reasons for maintenance practice are as follows:
- To ensure maximum or efficient use of farm machine
- To keep the machines in a good working condition.
- To increase their useful life or life span
- To prevent them from becoming obsolete or from deteriorating
SUB TOPIC 2: MAINTENANCE OF FARM MACHINERY
- PERIODIC MAINTENANCE OF FARM MACHINERY
Maintenance practices that should be carried out periodically or at regular intervals on the machines include the following:
- Tractor should be service at regular interval
- Worn out tyres should be replaced and tyre pressure gauged regularly
- Ensure that nut and screw are checked and tightened regularly
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE OF FARM MACHINERY

- Keep the tractor clean by removing trash or mud from it before and after operation
- Check water level daily and top it when necessary
GENERAL MAINTENANCE OF FARM MACHINERY
The following maintenance practices or operations can be carried out on farm machinery.
- Keep the machine clean by removing all trash or mud and excess grease oil from machines at the start or at the end of operation.
- Adhere strictly to manual or manufacturer’s instruction
- Always use the machine or the implements for the operation for which it was designed.
- Employ a competent and experienced operator and technicians to handle the machines.
- Store machines and implement in a cool and dry place, usually under shade.
