Who the Holy Spirit is

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. The Trinity consists of God the father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament time, men whom God used were given the Spirit of God. For example, when Saul and David were anointed as kings of Israel, the Spirit of God came upon them. When special tasks were to be performed, the Spirit of God came upon the person to perform the task. Examples were Samson, Gideon, and many others. The descent of the Holy Spirit is traced to the day of Pentecost when the disciples of Jesus Christ assembled at the upper room in Jerusalem.

The Holy Spirit was a promise made by Jesus to his apostles. He told them that after he had died and gone to be with his father, he would send the Holy Spirit, the comforter and counselor, to guide them to all truth. This was fulfilled.           The Holy Spirit is still living in our hearts and controls our lives today.
