The following are the postgraduate admission requirements in Igbinedion university, the institution requirements align with NUC of admitting PG students.

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS IN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCE:

      Programme:

  1. Economics and Development Studies
  2. International Relation and Strategic Studies
  3. Mass Communication
  4. Political Science and Public Administration

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

  1. Candidates must have 5 credit Passes including English Language and Mathematics at O Level.
  2. Candidates should have not less than 3rd Class Honour Bachelor’s Degree from an approved Universities in the course of study or related discipline
  3. Candidates with HND and or Professional qualifications cognate to their study or related discipline from a recognized Institution with not less than Upper Credit are also eligible.

MSc Programme

Admission Requirements:

  1. Candidates must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the University including English Language and Mathematics.
  2. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in their course of study from an approved University whose programme have been accredited by the NUC
  3. Candidates with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Degree and a CGPA of 3.00 on a five-point scale are eligible.
  4. Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Degree from their course of study or a cognate discipline awarded by Igbinedion University, Okada or other recognized Institution with not less than an upper Credit.

PhD Programme

Admission Requirements:

  1. University minimum requirements for a BSc degree in the field of Study
  2. BSc degree from an approval University whose programme is accredited by the NUC
  3. A minimum of a second-class lower degree in the field of study
  4. MSc degree in the field of study with a CGPA of at least 4.0 in a 5-point scale
  5. Submission of a brief satisfactory statement of intended are of research.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS IN COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCE

Department of Microbiology

A candidate shall normally have at least Second-Class Honours (upper/lower) degree in Microbiology or other related fields of study (e.g Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Crop Protection) of the Igbinedion University, or any other University of recognized standard. Other candidates whose qualifications and experience are deemed adequate and satisfactory may also be considered for admission. In the latter, a qualified examination may be required.

Department of Computer Science

A candidate shall normally have at least Second-Class Honours (upper/lower) degree in Computer Science or other related fields of study from Igbinedion University, or any other University of a recognized standard. Other candidates whose qualifications and experience are deemed adequate and satisfactory may also be considered for admission. In the latter, a qualifying examination may be required.

Department of Biochemistry

Post Graduate Diploma

Admission Requirements;

A candidate shall normally have at least Second Class Honours (upper/lower) degree in Biochemistry or other related fields of study from Igbinedion University, or any other University of a recognized standard. Other candidates whose qualifications and experience are deemed adequate and satisfactory may also be considered for admission. In the latter, a qualifying examination may be required.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

Admission Requirements:

  1. Provided the matriculation requirements are satisfied
  2. Five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level.
  3. Relevant Bachelor’s Degree not lower than Third Class Division from recognized Universities.
  4. Bachelor’s Degrees with at least Second-Class Lower Division in areas not related to Administration may be considered.
  5. Higher National Diploma at least upper credit level.
  6. Relevant Professional qualifications.

MSc Programme.

Provided the University’s matriculation requirements are satisfied:

Degree in relevant area from a recognized University with minimum of second Class Lower Division may be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied.

A postgraduate diploma at upper credit level in relevant area from a recognized university

PhD Programme.

A good MSc degree in the relevant area with at least an average of B grade (60%) which includes course  work and thesis/dissertation.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Academic)

The criteria for admission into the MBA programme will be as follows:

  1. All candidates must have credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level as basic requirement.
  2. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree from an approved university must obtain a minimum of second-class lower division.
  3. All candidates must have minimum of one year managerial/administrative experience.
  4. All candidates must have demonstrated adequate intellectual capacity, professionalism, maturity and effective decision making and problem-solving potentials during the university’s admission test and interview.
  5. All candidates must have attained a satisfactory level of performance in the university’s admission test and interview.
  6. Candidates with postgraduate diploma from a recognized university and who have passed with a minimum of upper credit may also be considered for admission provided the university’s matriculation requirements are satisfied.
  7. Candidates with good quantitative background and some basic knowledge of economics will have added advantage.
  8. Holders of HND and/or professional qualification in administration disciplines are eligible for admission but must go through a mandatory nine months postgraduate diploma in the University provided they meet the basic University entry qualifications.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS IN COLLEGE OF LAW

Masters of Law (LL.M)

The criteria for admission into the LL.M programme are as follows:

  1. A Bachelor of Laws degree from an approved University with a minimum of Second-Class Honours Lower Division.
  2. A minimum of five (5) credit passes, including English Language and Literature in English, at not more than two (2) sittings in SSC/GCE ordinary Level or its equivalent.
  3. A minimum of two positive references as to character and learning must to be submitted by the applicant. At least one of the references must be obtained from the applicant’s former lecturers in the Faculty of Law.
  4. University may, in addition, conduct a qualifying examination for applicants for the purpose of admission.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree

The criteria for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Law are as follows:

  1. A Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree from an approved University.
  2. A Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from an approved University with research thesis and a weighted course work average which shall normally be not less than 60% OR
  3. A Masters of Law (LL.M) degree by course work from an approved University with an average which should normally be not less than 60%.

Applicants for M.Phil and Ph.D degree programmes must also satisfy the requirements under section 2, 3, 1 (ii) and (iii) above.

A University may, in addition, conduct a qualifying examination for applicants for the purpose of admission into M.Phil/Ph.D degree programmes.

SPECIALIZED MASTER’S PROGRAMMES

Specialized Master’s programmes may be run by a university in special areas of the Law for public officers’ legal practitioners and other professionals who need law to enable them perform efficiently in their vocations.  Such specialized programmes shall be for a minimum of twelve (12) calendar months.

Part time Programmes

LL.M, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees may be offered on part-time basis. The duration shall be:

For the LL.M, a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years:

For the M.phil, a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years and

For the Ph.D, a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 7 years. The Postgraduate School Board may, upon reasonable ground, grant extension to a student.
