It is also a form of needle work by which fabrics are created from yarn or thread using a crochet hook. Crocheting is similar to knitting. The difference is that only one loop is active at a time in crocheting and a crochet hook is used instead of a needle. Crocheting fabric begins by placing a slip-knot loop on the hook to create a chain of a suitable length. Crocheting is the making of a cloth by passing a loop or thread, wool, cotton etc. into other loops with a single hook needle which is made of stainless steel.

Materials.

  • Thread/wool.
  • Crochet hook.
  • Crochet pins
  • A pair of scissors.
  • Gauge measure,
  • Measuring tapes,
  • Fringe,
  • Cardboard templates are used in making fringes tassels, and row counters used for special designs.

Basic stitches in crocheting.                                                                                                                                                                           

i.   Chain stitches fold over the wool to make a loop.

ii. Treble stitches are useful stitches in crocheting. It is done from right to left.
