Meaning of Energy:

Energy is the ability or capacity of the body to do work. Anything which possesses the ability to exert a force is having energy. Energy is a measure of the ability to do work and is absolutely necessary for everything including life itself. For example, if an object is moved from one point to another, work has been done. Work requires the use of energy. It is the energy that enables us to do work.

Sources of Energy:

  1. Sun: The ultimate and primary source of energy
  2. Food
  3. Water
  4. Wind
  5. Heat
  6. Natural gas
  7. Petrol
  8. Biofuels
  9. Charcoal
  10. Magnet

The Sun

The Sun outshines everything else in the sky. Without the Sun, there would be no life on Earth.

FORMS OF ENERGY:

There are different forms of energy.

  1. Chemical energy: This is the energy contained in food substances, petrol, diesel, kerosene, coal etc.
  2. Mechanical energy: This is the energy of motion and position.

There are two forms of mechanical energy;

  1. Kinetic or motion energy.
  2. Potential or place energy.

Kinetic energy: is the type of energy possessed by a body in motion.
