CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to maneuver a ball into the opponent’s side using a hockey stick. There are different types of hockey such as field hockey and ice hockey.

HISTORY OF HOCKEY IN NIGERIA

Hockey game was introduced into Nigeria by European in 1928, who introduced and played the game in various schools and colleges in the country.

Hockey became a regular feature in inter-house sports competitions of Kings’ College, Igbobi College and St. Gregory’s College, and with some army unit teams, friendly matches were being conducted.

The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) is the governing body of Field Hockey in Nigeria. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarter of NHF is in Abuja, Nigeria.
