TOPIC – LIVING IN THE FAMILY 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to –

  1. name members of a nuclear family.
  2. identify and name members of the extended family.
  3. describe the various kinds of relationships among family members as aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, cousin and ward.
  4. draw the family tree (extended family).
  5. state the benefits of good relationships between family members.

ENTRY BEHAVIOR: the pupils have been taught

Family.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of A chart showing the nuclear families, Photographs of family members, Picture of an extended family which shows its membership.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION – FAMILY 

Family is made of people who are related to one another by blood.

TYPES OF FAMILY 

Members of the family are the nuclear family and the extended family –

  1. The nuclear family consists of the father, mother, and children.
  2. The extended family consists of the father, mother, children, grandfather and grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousins, and nephews.

RELATIONSHIPS OF MEMBERS OF THE EXTENDED FAMILY 

UNCLE

Brother(s) of our father and mother.
