Candidates were unable to:

  1. suggest possible solutions to the problems of agricultural development such as inadequate land, inadequate finance and incidence of diseases;
  2. give reasons why farm machines should be maintained;
  3. explain how population pressure, mining and topography affect land availability for agriculture;
  4. state the reasons for parboiling paddy rice;
  5. state the advantages and disadvantages of taungya farming;
  6. explain the systems of mating in livestock management;
  7. draw and label the digestive tract of a hen;
  8. define agricultural insurance;
  9. explain different types of insurance policies for agricultural production such as specific enterprise insurance, fire insurance and life assurance.

Useful Tips on how to Pass WAEC

As familiar as the reasons are, many students willfully despised suggested remedies in the previous years before heading for the WAEC examination. You are therefore counselled to consider the outlined remedies while preparing for the next exam.

  1. Aspects of the syllabus such as farm mechanization/Agricultural engineering, crop and animal production, agricultural economics amongst others should be covered by teachers with particular emphasis on the new areas of the syllabus;
  2. Teachers should teach the students with appropriate diagrams where necessary;
  3. Teachers should emphasize the acquisition of practical skills in the subject; and
  4. Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools in West Africa.
  5. Encourage students to spell correctly and adhere to nomenclature rules

  11. mention examples of print and electronic media used in disseminating agricultural extension messages
  12. state the advantages of group method of agricultural extension
  13. explain the term assembling as a marketing function
  14. state the symptoms and control measures of maize streak as well as groundnut rosette
