Have you wonder why many fails despite the input they might have made into the examination, the reasons are not far-fetched, they often overlook minute details that are matters. Without much ado, this article will address Reasons why Candidates fail WAEC Chemistry 2017 theory, they are:

Candidates weaknesses were noticed in the following areas:

  1. inability to correctly define concepts
  2. inability to correctly write IUPAC name of compounds
  3. inability to list two forces of attraction that exist between covalent molecules
  4. inability to write the electron configuration of 26Fe3+
  5. inability to describe the chemical tests for CO2, H2 and O2
  6. inability to state the composition of water gas
  7. inability to describe a simple experiment to determine the type of hardness in a sample of water
  8. poor communication skills

WAEC Recommendations for the Candidates

The following remedies were however suggested: candidates

  4. should understand the requirements of questions before responding to them
  5. should be able to differentiate among phenomenon, process and agent in chemical reactions;
  6. should improve on their communication skills.

Candidate’s Strengths

Candidates’ strengths were noticed in the following areas:

  1. ability to name example of acid – base indicators;
  2. ability to identify NO2 as an oxidizing agent;
