Having carefully examined the year’s general performance in Data processing WAEC, the followings were identified as the leading reasons why candidates fail 2015 Data Processing WAEC.
Candidates’ Weakness
The Chief Examiner reported that the candidates’ weakness was observed in the:
- definition of Operating system
- misinterpretation of computer file as database file
- inability to differentiate between data and information
- confusion between algorithm and flowchart
Other weaknesses include
- poor handwriting
- spelling mistakes
- poor knowledge of computer keywords
Suggested Remedies
Computer Studies instructors are encouraged to identify the correct teaching methodology which will help the students to understand their weak areas better.
Candidates’ Strength
The observed strengths of the candidates include:
- The Chief Examiner observed that the format of the questions enabled the candidates to be straight forward and precise in their responses.
- The Chief Examiner noted that candidates attempted questions on Translators, Software, System Development Cycle, the Computer System and Algorithm very well.
