TOPIC: INTONATION: FALLING TONE

Intonation is the variation or change in the pitch level of the voice. This is noticeable in rising and falling tone during communication.

There are two major tones, these are:

Falling Tone (    ) and rising tone

Our emphasis for now is on falling tone.

This falling tone is used in the following situations.

1.To Express Command

  • Sit down here.
  • Stand up now.
  • Get out of my office.
  1. To Express WH Questions eg.
  • What is your name?
  • Who knows tomorrow?
  • What should I buy?
  1. In Exclamation
  • What a beautiful car!
  • What a lovely home!
  • That is Great!

4.For Declarative Sentence

The Lord is good.

I know her very well.

Nobody knows his house.
