SUB – TOPIC: 1.      UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS, NATIONAL INTEGRITY AND NATIONAL UNITY

1. National Consciousness:

National consciousness is the awareness that one belongs to an ethnic or political nation. It is also a feeling of necessary social cohesion which establishes a unique character, image and identity for a nation.

National Consciousness demands the following:

1. The existence of an ethnic or politically created group within a given geographical territory.
2. Well-feeling originating from mental and emotional bond and cultural affiliation.
3. Sense of patriotism and love for the identified group and strong desire for its corporate existence.
4. Willingness to pay the prize for the sustenance of the group’s interests, norms, values and cultural orientations.
5. Giving total allegiance to the nation and obedience to the constitution and constituted authorities.
6. Readiness to stand against external aggression and internal divisions and injustices.
7. Contributing one’s effort to sustain and strengthen the economic and social base of the nation.
