WEEK 1

Meaning and Types of Snack

Snack

Meaning

Snacks are light food taken in between meals. They are prepared from ingredients available at home without much preparation. They are portable, quick, and satisfying.

Snacks are simple and quick prepared meals, convenient and easy to eat. Snacks should include the essential nutrients needed by the body to perform its normal functions.

Types of snacks

  1. Puff-puff
  2. chin-chin
  3. biscuit
  4. cake
  5. ojojo
  6. Plantain chips
  7. Doughnut
  8. groundnut

Fruit drinks

Fruits drinks are juice extracted from fruits and diluted with sugar, pineapple drinks etc.

Types of snacks

  1. Pineapple juice
  2. Apple juice
  3. Cherry juice
  4. Lemonade
  5. Orange juice

Snacks and Main Meal

Snack II

Snacks are light food taken in between meals. They are prepared from ingredients available at home without much preparation. They are portable, quick, and satisfying. Snacks are simple and quick prepared meals, convenient and easy to eat. Snacks should include the essential nutrients needed by the body to perform its normal functions. Snacks: they are light food taken in between meals.

On the other hand, main meals are the real foods eaten three times a day, i.e. in the morning (breakfast), afternoon (lunch) and in the evening (dinner). Main meals contain the essentials nutrients required by the body to perform it task. Put simply, main-meal are the major food taken three times in a day that contains balanced diet e.g.

  1. Breakfast:Tea and bread and egg
  2. Lunch:Eba with meat vegetable soup
  3. Supper:Beans and fried plantain with stew

Differences between snacks and the main meals

Main meals Snacks
1. It takes longer time to prepare It is fast to prepare
2. It contains all food ingredients It lacks some
3. It is expensive It is very cheap
4. It is usually heavy food It is light food
5. It is taken three times It can be taken daily often.
