TYPES OF POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The four main types of postgraduate programmes shall be offered in this University:

  1. Postgraduate Diplomas;
  2. Masters Degree (M.B.A; M.Sc; M.P.A, M.A, M.ed; LL.M. e.t.c)
  3. MPhil/PhD
  4. Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D)

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The following may qualify for admission into the specified postgraduate programmes: –

Postgraduate Diploma

  1. Graduates of NSU or any other recognized University
  2. Holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least an upper credit pass in relevant disciplines
  3. HND holders with lower credits in relevant disciplines but with a minimum of five years relevant post-qualification experience
  4. Holders of other professional qualifications which may be acceptable to the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Senate of the University

Master’s Degree

  1. Holders of first degree of NSU with first- or second-class honours;
  2. Holders of equivalent qualifications from other recognized Universities;
  3. A candidate with a degree lower than second class honours may be eligible if either:
  4. S/he has good relevant Postgraduate Diploma with at least an upper credit pass; or
  5. S/he passes any prescribed qualifying examination for admission;
  6. Holders of any other qualifications with or without relevant experience which are acceptable to the school of Postgraduate Studies Board.

MPhil/PhD

This is only a bridge-programme

  1. Candidates with Master’s degree of NSUK with GPA less than 4.0 on a 5-point scale

Doctor of Philosophy Degree

Candidates who hold a Master’s degree of NSU with GPA = 4.0 (on a  5 point scale);

Candidates with equivalent qualifications with relevant working experience which are acceptable to the Board and Senate.

Duration of Programmes

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (Course work/Project report)

  1. Full-time students: 2 semesters or 12 calendar months;
  2. Part-time students: 4 semesters or 24 calendar months;

Master’s Degree Programme

Full-time Master’s degree by course work/project report/dissertation.

  1. Minimum duration: 2 semesters or 12 calendar months.
  2. Maximum duration: 6 semesters or 36 calendar months.

Part-time Master’s degree by course work/project report/dissertation.

  1. Minimum duration: 4 semesters or 24 calendar months
  2. Maximum duration: 8 semesters or 48 calendar months

 Ph.D Programmes

Full-time Students:

  1. Minimum duration: 4 semesters or 24 calendar months
  2. Maximum duration: 10 semesters or 60 calendar months

Part-time students:

  1. Minimum duration: 6 semesters or 36 calendar months
  2. Maximum duration: 12 semesters or 72 calendar months
