 CONTENT: Advantages and disadvantages of propagation by;

  • Seed – easy to carry, store, procure, sow etc.
  • Vegetative organs- more resistant to diseases and pest, matures and produces early, etc

 Advantages of sexual propagation

  1. Seeds are light and can easily be transported
  2. Seeds are relatively cheaper.

 Disadvantages of propagation by sexual propagation

  1. Seed may not germinate because of dormancy.
  2. It reduces the amount of seeds for consumption.

Sub-Topic 2: Advantages and disadvantages of asexual/vegetative propagation

 Advantages of asexual propagation

  1. There is good adaptation of crops.
  2. More resistance to pests and diseases.

Disadvantages of asexual/vegetative propagation.

  1. Planting materials cannot be stored for a long period of time without losing their viability.
  2. Diseases of parent stock are manifested in offspring.
  3. Vegetative materials are costly especially tree crops.
