TOPIC: Features of a keyboard
BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

FEATURES OF A KEYBOARD
A keyboard contains letters of the alphabet, A– Z and numbers 0–9. It also contains function keys F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, F10, F11 and F12. Signs like the comma and full stop are on the keyboard. Letters are typed into the computer by pressing any of the keys.
A keyboard is an input device used for typing data into the computer.
FEATURES OF A KEYBOARD
- It is rectangular in shape
- It has numbers and alphabet keys
- It has symbols on it
- It it has many keys
There are two types of keyboards
1 The standard keyboard
This type of keyboard has ten function keys, that is F1 to F10
2 The enhanced keyboard
An enhanced keyboard has twelve or fifteen functions keys. That is F1 to F12 or F1 to F15.
Strategies& Activities:
Step1: Teacher revises the previous topic.
Step2: Teacher introduces the new topic.
Step3: Teacher explains the new topic.
Step4: Teacher welcomes pupils’ questions.
Step5: Teacher evaluates the pupils
Assessment & Evaluation:
State three features of a keyboard
(WRAP-UP CONCLUSION)
Teacher goes over the topic once again to enhance better understanding.
Activities
- How many types of keyboards do we have?
- Name them.
- What is the difference between the two types of keyboards?
- Your teacher will show you how to use a keyboard.
- What do you see on the monitor when you press F1, F6 and F9 keys?
- Now use the keyboard to type a letter to your friend, inviting him or her to your next birthday party.

USES OF A KEYBOARD
- It is used for typing.
- It is used for giving command to the computer.
- It is used for scrolling.
- It can be used to save documents
- It is used for playing computer games
