  6. state the uses of specimens P (Wood shavings) and R (Spade)
  7. state the precaution observed when using specimen P
  8. describe how specimen V (Livestock bone) could be processed into bone meal

The council’s Recommendations outlined by the Chief Examiner

The following recommendations were inferred from the exam based on peculiar weaknesses of the candidates. They are:

  1. Only competent graduates of Animal Science/Production should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Schools
  2. Animal Husbandry should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips, excursions.
  3. Adequate facilities and textbooks on Animal Husbandry should be made available to enhance the teaching-learning of Animal Husbandry in Senior Secondary Schools.
  4. The students should be encouraged to write legibly and obey scientific rule when reporting

Candidates’ strength

The candidates answered the following questions very well:

  1. state the ways in which specimen C (Pueraria) is important to livestock
  2. name the type of farm animal that is mostly fed with specimen F (Hay)
  3. state the method used in maintaining specimen R (Spade);
  4. name the farm animals from where specimens W (Poultry crop) and X (Rumen) could be obtained.
