Having thoroughly cross checked the general performance of the candidates and the WAEC expectations, it fails to match up, this thus necessitated for this chief examiner tripodal view which comprises of weaknesses, recommendations and candidate’s strength. This article will start with the reasons why candidates fail 2018 Islamic Religious Studies – IRS – WAEC before others.
Candidates’ Weaknesses
Candidates displayed the following weakness in this examination:

Suggested Remedies
To address the observed weaknesses, the following remedies were recommended
- adequate preparations for the exams
- thorough reading of questions before they are answered
- mastery of Arabic Language
- conscious efforts by candidates to train for legible handwriting
- strict adherence to instructions.
- employment of qualified teachers to handle the subject
- provision of relevant recommended text books in schools and home
Candidates’ Strengths
Few candidates who sat for this year examination were reported to have displayed the following strengths
- adherence to rubrics
- mastery of practical questions
- good grasp of the Qur’an and Hadith aspects of the paper
- impressive translation
