Aligning with the WAEC data, which was made available on their official website, the followings were pinned as reasons why Candidates fail 2011 Commerce WAEC. Carefully study the reasons, suggested and remedies if you are a prospective candidate or the subject teacher.
Some of the weaknesses observed in candidates’ scripts were:
- Poor preparation for the examination, some candidates’ answers showed inadequate knowledge of the subject matter for example candidate performed poorly in questions number 1, 4 and 8 which was on occupation, factor of production, means of payment, explanation of business terms, sources of capital and factors to be considered when giving loans respectively.
- Lack of examination technique. Few candidates did not take note of the rubrics; hence, they answered two questions on the same page instead on the separate pages.
WAEC Suggested Remedies
The following remedies were offered by the chief examiner in order to boost prospective candidate score, carefully take a look!
- Candidates should cover all aspects of the syllabus in commerce in good time so as to have enough time for revision before the commencement of the examination.
- Qualified teachers of commerce should be employed to teach commerce in Schools and recommended textbooks should be studied by the candidates in order to improve on their knowledge of the subject.
- Teachers should teach the candidates examination techniques to enhance their performance.
Candidate’s Strengths
The candidates shown appreciable effort in these areas:
- Some candidates performed well in questions number 2, 3, 7, 9 and 10 which were on Business Organization and government participation in business, advertising, consumer protection and capital of a business, calculation of capital
- Some candidates kept to rubrics and presented their answers in an orderly manner.
