Vanier CGS July 2024 Fully Funded PhD Scholarship For Nigerians

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program is pleased to invite applications from outstanding Nigerian candidates for the prestigious Vanier CGS awards. Background of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program was established in 2008 to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global center of excellence in research and higher learning. Named in honor of Major-General Georges P. Vanier, the first francophone Governor General of Canada, this program aims to support students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Citizenship: Candidates must be nominated by only one Canadian institution, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota allocation.

Area of Research: Candidates’ research must be in the areas of health research, natural sciences and/or engineering, or social sciences and humanities.

Academic Excellence: Candidates must have achieved a first-class average in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent.

Doctoral Program: Candidates must be pursuing their first doctoral degree (including joint undergraduate/graduate research program such as MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, or JD/PhD) and must have completed no more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2024.

Nomination: Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian institution at which they wish to study. Candidates cannot self-nominate.

Leadership Skills: Candidates must demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies.

Application Opening and Closing Period

The application period for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships typically opens in July and closes in November each year. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the key dates are as follows:

Selection Process

The selection process for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships is rigorous and competitive. It involves the following steps:
