SPEECH WORK: Vowel Contrast (/i:/ and /i/, /u/ and /u:/).

TOPIC: Vowel Contrast (/i: / and /i/, /u/ and /u:/).

The vowel sounds /i:/ and /i/ are vowel sounds. The sound /i:/ is a long, front, close, spread vowel sound while /i/ is a short, front, half close, spread.

Examples:

seed kid

/u/ and /u:/: The vowel sounds /u/ and /u:/ are vowel sounds. The sound /u/ short, back, half- close rounded vowel while the sound /u:/is a long, back, close, rounded vowel sound.

wood wooed
should shoe
Foot fruit

EVALUATION: From the words lettered A to D, choose the word that has the same vowel sound(s) as the one represented by the letter(s) underlined.
