SUB-TOPIC 1: MEANING AND EXAMPLE OF RENEWABLE AND NON RENEWABLE RESOURCES.

Renewable resources are resources like crops and other forest resources which may take short period of time to grow and be harvested. Examples: plants and animals.

Non renewable resources are those that take millions of years to form and once they are exhausted cannot be replaced. Examples include; coal, tin, columbite, crude oil which are found deep down in the earth.

EVALUATION: Explain the term renewable and non-renewable resources.

SUB-TOPIC 2: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE RESOURCES AND NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES

ADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE RESOURCES

ADVANTAGES OF NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES

  • Employment
  • Source of power
  • Foreign exchange
  • It could promote the growth of settlement as in the case of Niger-Delta
  • Provide raw materials for industries

DISADVANTAGES OF NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES

  • It brings about land degradation
  • It brings about soil erosion
  • It brings about environmental pollution
  • It could be responsible for low agricultural products

DISADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE RESOURCES

  • Transportation problem
  • Flooding
