TOPIC: COMMUNICATION IN NIGERIA

CONTENT:              

  1. Communication Networks
  2. Advantages and disadvantages of the different communication element/ network
  3. Problems of communication in Nigeria
  4. Importance of communication on human activities.

Meaning of Communication

Communication is the process of exchange or transmission of meaningful information, feelings, opinions and ideas from one person to another or from one place to another. It is a two–way process which involves sending and receiving of messages.

SUB-TOPIC 1: COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

This has to do with various means by which information are sent and received. They include the following:

  1. Tele-communication: It is the technology used in sending signals, images, and messages over long distance by telephone and satellite. This includes the use of telephone services, cellular phones, voice mails etc.
  2. Postal services: This involves both postal and payment services to the public through post office. Various postal services are: ordinary letters, parcel post, registered letters, express letter, private boxes and bags, business reply service, telegrams agency service, etc. The postal service in Nigeria is controlled by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
  3. Television: Information can also be disseminated on television. Various television broadcasting station in Nigeria include NTA, AIT, Silver Bird, Channel TV etc.
  4. Radio: Some of the radio broadcasting station in Nigeria include: Radio Nigeria, Ray Power, Capital FM, Aso Radio, Choice FM, Wazobia FM, Cool FM etc
  5. Newspaper: e.g. Punch, Leadership, Guidance, The Nation etc.
  6. Internet service: This is a global network of computer which communicates, using a common language. People communicate using internet service through e-mail, World Wide Web Site, Google, Facebook, tweeter, blog, black berry messages, yahoo messenger etc

EVALUATION:

  1. What is communication and communication network?
  2. State four communication network in Nigeria?
  3. Give four examples of telecommunication.
  4. Mention four internet services by which people communicate.
