SUB–TOPIC 1:       MEANING OF INTER-COMMUNAL RELATIONSHIPS.

A community is a group of people living together in the same locality and share things in common, such as culture, and tradition.

Inter-communal relationships mean political, economical, social and cultural relationship between two or more communities. Communities involved in such relationships receive some benefits in response to their needs and concern for their welfare and interest. In addition, they enjoy exchange of goods and services from neighbouring community, marriage between members of different communities, migration and settlement in different community.

SUB-TOPIC 2: IMPORTANCE OF INTER-COMMUNAL RELATIONSHIPS

Importance /benefits of inter-communal relationship include:

  1. Peace and stability: inter-communal relationship promotes peace and stability among communities.
  2. Social –economic development: Relationship between two or more communities could lead to socio-economic development as they engage in buying of goods and services and embrace the culture of other communities.
  3. Political ties: When communities enter into relationship with another, political ties are established and this promotes peace and stability among them.
  4. Inter-marriages: Relationship between communities’ results in inter-marriages and this will promote peace and unity and reduce conflict between them.
  5. Migration: When relationships are established between communities, people move freely from one area to another to settle and do their business. This will also promote peaceful co-existence between such communities.
  6. Reduction in inter-communal conflicts: Where there are inter-relationships between communities, conflicts are probably to be reduced to a great extent.
  7. Relationship between communities encourages mutual trust and confidence between members of such communities.
