Topic: Medium of Information Transmission:

CONTENT

TYPES OF INFORMATION TRANSMISSION (Satellite, Wireless, and cable).

Information can be transmitted in various ways, i.e. satellite, wireless, and cable.

SUB-TOPIC 1:

SATELLITE TRANSMISSION

satellite is any object that revolves around a planet in a circular or elliptical path. The moon is Earth’s natural satellite at 240,000 miles distant. Other satellites that fulfill this definition are man made and have been launched into orbit to carry out specific functions.

A communication satellite (sometimes abbreviated to COMSAT) is an artificial satellite stationed in space for the purpose of telecommunications.

Functions of Satellite

  1. It enhances global transmission of information
  2. It provides telephone and television communication to different countries of the world

iii.        It makes live telecast of importance events. E.g world cup matches, Olympic game

  1. It makes instant communication of events and information possible.

THE ADVANTAGES OF SATELLITE COMMUNICATION

  1. The coverage area of a satellite greatly exceeds that is very precise.
  2. The transmission cost of a satellite is independent of the distance from the canter of the coverage area.
  3. Satellite to satellite communication is very precise.
  4. Higher bandwidths are available for use.

THE DISADVANTAGES OF SATELLITE COMMUNICATION:

  1. Launching satellite into orbit is costly.
  2. Satellite bandwidth is gradually becoming used up.
  3. There is a larger propagation delay in satellite communication that in terrestrial communication.
