12 Reasons Why Candidate Fail 2014 Animal Husbandry WAEC Practical

Animal Husbandry practical session can be tipped as a bonus package by qualified teachers when preparing the students, however, due to persisting negligence and poor adherence to rules among others have been the Reasons Why Candidate Fail 2014 Animal Husbandry WAEC Practical

The candidates were unable to:

  1. state the uses of specimen B (Egg tray);
  2. describe how specimen C (Burdizzo) is used;
  3. identify specimens H (Centrosema molle), l (Panicum maximum), J (Tridax procumbens) and K (Grass hay);
  4. state the advantages of having specimens H (Centrosema molle) and l (Panicum maximum) in a
  5. pasture;
  6. describe the process of making specimen K (Grass hay);
  7. state the ways of preserving specimen L (Chicken egg);
  8. mention the sources of contamination of specimen M (Fresh milk);
  9. state the ways of preventing contamination of specimen M (Fresh milk);
  10. mention a mode of transmission for specimens Q(Roundworm) and R(Tick);
  11. state the effects of specimen Q(Roundworm) on rabbits and
  12. state the ways in which specimen R(Tick) is of economic importance to livestock production.

WAEC recommendations for the candidates

The council pulled across the states the most appropriate recommendations that can be of great help to the students. Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  1. Only competent graduates of Animal Science/Production should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools;
  2. Animal Husbandry should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips, excursions etc; and
  3. Adequate facilities and textbooks on Animal Husbandry should be made available to enhance the teaching-learning of Animal Husbandry in Senior Secondary Schools.

 Displayed Candidate’s Strengths

The candidates were able to:

  1. identifying specimens, A (Ear notcher), B (Egg tray) and C (Burdizzo);
  2. name the farm animals that specimen A (Ear notcher) could be used on;
  3. state the maintenance practices for specimen C (Burdizzo);
  4. mention a monogastric and a polygastric animal that could feed on specimen I (Panicum maximum);
  5. identify specimens L (Chicken egg) and M (Fresh milk);
  6. mention a farm animal from which specimens L (Chicken egg) and M (Fresh milk) Is obtained.
  7. name the method by which the fertility of specimen L (Chicken egg) is determined;
  8. state the major nutrient contained in specimen L (Chicken egg)
  9. list the products that could be obtained from the processing of specimen M (Fresh milk);
  10. name a method used in preserving specimen M (Fresh milk); and
  11. identify the part of the animal body in which specimens Q (Roundworm) and R (Tick) could be found.
