What is a state? What characteristic must a state possesses?

May be defined as a politically organized body of people occupying a definite geographical territory with an organized government entirely free from external control and with coercive power to secure obedience from its citizens and others, when we talk about state in this case, we do not mean a state or a component part of a country like Nigeria that practice federalism. That is states like Lagos, Imo, Ogun, Borno, etc. Examples of the states we mean in this discussion are Nigeria, Togo, USA, Gambia, Zambia, China, Indian, Poland, etc.
