CONTENT
Meaning of life drawing
Life drawing is the drawing of humans. It entails drawing a human in any posture. It can either be a human sitting down, standing up or lying on a couch. It is also called figure drawing. The drawing of humans requires mastery of the proportions of the different parts of the body in relation to the other parts. These proportions of the different parts of the body in relation to the other parts vary with age. For example, for an average adult, the height of the head is about 71/2 times the height of the person. This picture is a good example of life drawing.
Types of life drawing
Portrait drawing
This is the drawing of humans from the chest up to the head. This can be drawn directly from a model (a person) who poses for it, or model based on a photograph. It is, however, advisable to work from a photograph when doing portrait drawing. This is because a model may not be able to maintain the same pose and the required facial expression for a long time. Portrait drawing could be the drawing of a single figure or more. In portrait drawing, it is very important that the artist should produce a drawing that is an exact resemblance of the model or the photograph.
Full-figure drawing
Full-figure drawing is the drawing of the complete human body (in the right proportions). A model is used for this purpose in an art class. A model is a professional person employed to pose in different positions and attires for the artist to draw.
Composition-figure drawing
This is the drawing of two or more human figures involved in an activity. Examples of such activities include cultural activities, market scenes, sports activities, and political rallies.
