PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

PRIMARY 4

THEME – FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENT AND RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES 

TOPIC: LOCOMOTIVE MOVEMENTS 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor):

  1. list the basic locomotor movements;
  2. explain how to perform each of the movements;
  3. demonstrate movement patterns;
  4. practice the skills of locomotor movement.

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

Basic movements – walking and running

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  • chart
  • pictures
  • video clips
  • mats
  • rope
  • rings

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION – LOCOMOTIVE MOVEMENTS

Locomotive movements are movements of body from one place to another.

These movements involve one changing his or her position to another position.

There are many different locomotor movements:

  1. Walking
  2. Running
  3. Skipping
  4. Sliding
  5. Hopping
  6. Jumping
  7. Leaping

Pupil’s – Teacher’s Activities

Demonstrate some of these locomotor movements

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Explains the basic movement skills;
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher.
  4. Demonstrates the basic movement skills;
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Watch the teacher’s demonstration.
  6. Observes and supervises the basic movement skills;
  7. Pupil’s Activities – Practice the activities.
  8. Corrects the pupil’s practice errors.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
