Postgraduate Admission Requirements in PLASU – Plateau State University

The University admits only graduates from recognized tertiary institutions into her postgraduate programmes on meeting the Postgraduate Admission Requirements in PLASU – Plateau State University stipulated for the intended programmes of study. The general admission requirements and duration of postgraduate Degrees in PLASU are as follows:

SANDWICH PROGRAMMES are run at Masters and Postgraduate Diploma levels by the Faculty of Technical and Science Education.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

Postgraduate Programmes

Applicants with the qualifications in the underlisted categories shall be eligible for admission into the postgraduate programmes; however, candidates must fulfill the matriculation requirements of Plateau State University.

Postgraduate Diplomas

A candidate seeking admission into the Full-time/Part-time Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor degree with at least Second-Class Division in the relevant discipline.

Master’s Programme

A candidate who holds PGD, PGDE or PGDTE with CGPA of 3.50 or above in the relevant discipline may apply for the Master’s Programme.

Candidates for the M.Ed. degree programmes offered in the Faculty of Technical and Science Education should possess EITHER a good Bachelor’s degree (not lower than Second Class Division) in a relevant teaching subject OR Higher National Diploma or its equivalent with at least lower credit classification in addition to PGDE or PGDTE with a CGPA of 3.50 obtained from this University or any other recognized institution.

Doctoral Degree: (Ph.D)

  1. Candidates with at least a Bachelors (Hons) degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline.
  2. Possess Masters degree with a CGPA of at least 3.50 on a 5.00-point scale.

Additional Admission Requirements

  1. Academic transcript of past qualification (PGD, MSc, PhD) with forwarding letter signed by an authorized officer of the institution and sent by confidential cover to the Dean, Postgraduate School, Niger Delta University.
  2. Candidates are advised to write to the school where they graduated for transcript immediately, they purchase and submit the form to avoid late submission of transcripts.
  3. Two referees, one of which must be an academic referee (Lecturer who taught candidate in the former school, Project/ thesis Supervisor, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty).
  4. NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption/Exclusion Letter. (Candidates awaiting NYSC Discharge certificate can apply, provided the certificate would be ready at the time of registration).

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

  1. Full-time Diploma          –             2 Semesters
  2. Part-time Diploma         –              4 Semesters
  3. Sandwich             –             2 Long vacations of 8 weeks each.

Master’s Degree Programme

  1. FULL-TIME Master’s by course work, thesis/Dissertation and oral examination a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters. Extension may be allowed for not more than one semester only.
  2. Part-time master’s by course work, thesis/Dissertation and oral examination a minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 8 semesters. Extension may be allowed for not more than two Semesters only.

Ph.D. Programme

  1. Full-time – A minimum of 4 semesters beyond the master’s degree and a maximum of 6 semesters.
  2. Part-time – A minimum of 8 Semesters beyond the master’s degree and a maximum of 12 Semesters.

Plateau State University, postgraduate programmes admission application form cost a fee of #20,000.
