Postgraduate Admission Requirements in KRUST – Kebbi State University of Science and Technology

Admission into Postgraduate School is based on merit as well as quota system. A prospective candidate must have a minimum entry requirement for admission into the programme. See the outlined below Postgraduate Admission Requirements in KRUST – Kebbi State University of Science and Technology

Postgraduate Diplomas

The following shall qualify for admission into Postgraduate Diploma Programmes:

  1. Graduates of KSUSTA or any other recognized University with minimum of 3rd class degree.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND, not HD) with minimum of Lower Credit or its equivalent in related areas.
  3. Holders of HND (not HD) in non-related areas with minimum of Lower Credit. Such candidates may, however, be admitted after passing tests prescribed by the Department/Faculty in consultation with the Postgraduate School.
  4. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
  5. In addition to (i) – (iv) above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements.

Masters Degrees (Academic and Professional)

The following shall qualify for the Master’s Degree admission:

  1. Graduates of KSUSTA or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelor’s degree with at least second class honours lower division or its equivalent.
  2. Candidates whose degrees are unclassified with average of “C” or 50%.
  3. Candidates with only Bachelor’s degree in third division who have at least three years relevant working experience.
  4. Candidates who possess HND (not HD) with at least a Lower Credit pass from recognized institutions and at least Lower Credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma of KSUSTA or any other recognized institution in the relevant areas.
  5. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
  6. Candidates may be required to pass examination prescribed by postgraduate School in consultation with relevant Departments to which they are seeking admission to determine their suitability for postgraduate work.
  7. In addition to (i) – (vi) above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements.

Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil.)

The following shall qualify for the Masters of Philosophy admission:

  1. Graduates of KSUSTA and other recognized Universities who have obtained good Masters Degrees with minimum GPA of less than 3.5 on a 5-point scale or less than 2.5 on a 4-point scale.
  2. Candidates with the degree of Professional Masters with minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale and at least a Bachelor’s degree not below third-class division; the degrees of such candidates shall terminate at M.Phil.
  3. Candidates who have been recommended by their respective Departments to be upgraded from Masters to M.Phil.
  4. Phil. candidates who have Ph.D. in view must possess a minimum of second-class bachelor’s degree.
  5. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
  6. In addition to (i) – (iv) above, a candidate must satisfy the University matriculation requirements.

Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The following shall qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy admission:

  1. Graduates of KSUSTA and other recognized Universities who have obtained good Masters Degrees with GPA of 4.00 and above on a 5-point scale or 3.50 on a 4-point scale appropriate to the proposed areas of study.
  2. Candidates whose Masters degrees were through research only must have minimum of “B” grades or 60% score.
  3. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
  4. In addition to (i) – (iii) above, candidates must possess Bachelor’s degree in at least Second-Class Lower Division.
  5. Candidates with relevant qualifications and most present acceptable research proposals.
  6. In addition to (i)-(v) above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s Matriculation requirements.

PhD NOTE: – CANDIDATE MUST SEEK THE CONSENT OF A SUPERVISOR IN THE DEPARTMENT/FACULTY OF INTEREST BEFORE PURCHASING ADMISSION FORM.

Postgraduate Diploma

(Full-Time) – Two Semesters (12 Months Minimum)

Master’s Degree

(Full-Time) – Three Semesters (18 Months Minimum)

Master of Philosophy

(Full-Time) – Three Semesters (18 Months Minimum)

Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.)

(Full-Time) – Six Semesters (3 Years Minimum)
