Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic came into being in December 1991, the year Jigawa State was created by the Federal Government to provide opportunities for educational advancement of its citizens.

The Polytechnic was named Jigawa State Polytechnic by edict No. 1 of December 1991 with four colleges spread across the state (College of Engineering and Technology and the Central Administration at Kazaure, College of Business and Management Studies at Dutse, College of Islamic Studies and Legal Studies at Ringim and College of Agriculture at Hadejia).
