The Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu came into existence by the upgrade of the erstwhile Anambra State College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu to a polytechnic status by the Governor of Anambra State; Chief Willie Obiano in January, 2017.

The bill on the upgrade of the institution which was passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly was accented by the Governor, hence, the birth of the Anambra State Polytechnic Law in 2017.
