A suffix is the part of a word which is put after a given word also to form a new word. You can see this in these diagrams.
Im-possible – Meaning – Ful
Some suffixes can help us form nouns from other words. Let us look at some of these in the table below.
Suffixes | Original | New word |
-ness | Happy wicked like good gentle tired rough | happiness wickedness sickness likeness goodness gentleness tiredness roughness |
-ment | punish move nourish establish amaze agree disappoint | punishment movement nourishment establishment amazement agreement disappointment |
