Sub-Topic1: Meaning of pattern drafting

Pattern drafting is construction of measurement of different body parts on paper in order to make a well fitted garment.

PATTERNS : for clothing construction are shapes of garment parts, cut out of paper. Pattern drafting is an art that requires good imagination and plenty of practice.

USES OF PATTERNS IN GARMENT CONSTRUCTION

• Patterns are used to direct or guide the cutting of fabric.
• They prevent serious mistakes in dress making.
• They prevent waste of time in dress making.
• They prevent waste of fabric and make sewing easy.
• They reduce trial and error in sewing.

Sub-Topic 2: Fashion Designing

Fashion refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in style. In clothing construction, fashion involves use of styles in garment construction. patterns and designs on fabrics are often used to emphasize figures just as colours of fabrics emphasize complexion of the wearer. Simple or complex embroidery, with the use of needle and thread, are used to bring out the beauty of plane fabrics. Variouse parts of garment like sleeve, cuff, collars, yoke, pockets, etc. are also used to create designs that will suit styles in garment making.
