FUTO Postgraduate Admission Requirements

As contained in this year’s publication for the position of postgraduate studies, below is detailed FUTO Postgraduate Admission Requirements. The list is exclusively for all postgraduate courses, meanwhile, you can use the website’s search button to check for other institutions.

POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION APPLICATION

The Postgraduate School, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for consideration for admission into the underlisted Diploma, Masters and Doctorate Degree programmes for this session under Regular, Part Time, Centre for Continuing Education (Weekend), Institute of Women/Gender and Development Studies (IWoGDS), Institute of Erosion Studies (IES) and Public Procurement Research Centre (PPRC).

Any interested candidate should pay a non-refundable fee of eleven thousand, three hundred naira (N11,300.00) only at any of the Deposit Money Banks (DMB) through the Remita Gateway on the Postgraduate application platform and then complete the online application via the school website

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All candidates applying for any of the following postgraduate programmes must satisfy the basic matriculation requirements including O’ Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics and any other related subjects as required by the Department.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD)

Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’ Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) Lower Credit or above
  2. Bachelors Degree in the relevant discipline from FUTO or any other recognized University with at least a Third-Class Honours.
  3. A good Bachelors Degree with at least Second-Class Honours in other related disciplines.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Architecture

This will include successful completion of the programme of study leading to the award of the Bachelor of Technology degree in Architecture from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, or from another University accredited by the National Universities Commission and recognized by the senate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Prospective candidates must have a minimum of Third-Class Division in Architecture in addition to meeting other requirements of the postgraduate School.

In addition to fulfilling the requirements above, a holder of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Architecture must also have credit level passes in FIVE subjects including English, Physics, Mathematics, and any two subjects from: Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Land Surveying, Building Construction and Economics.

Holders of HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) are not eligible to apply.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Gender Studies

Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Gender Studies programme must possess any of the following:

  1. A good Bachelors Degree with at least Second Class Honours in other related disciplines.
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) Lower Credit or above
  3. Bachelors Degree in the relevant discipline from FUTO or any other recognized University with at least a Third Class Honours.

O’ LEVEL REQUIREMENT FOR GENDER STUDIES

O’ level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to any other three subjects as follows:

  1. Gender and Development Studies (Economics, Government or History, Commerce, Geography)
  2. Gender and Entrepreneurship (Economics, Government or History, Commerce, Geography)
  3. Global Health (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) iv) Gender and Agricultural Technology (Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Biology and Food Nutrition or Home Economics)

MASTERS: M.Sc, M.Eng and MPH

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Engineering (M.Eng), and Master of Public Health (MPH) programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’ Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department/Institute:

  1. A Bachelors degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) qualification in the related area from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. A Bachelors degree from a recognized University plus a PGD of not less than 3.00 CGPA on a 5-point scale and a 2.50 CGPA on a 4-point scale in the relevant area.

However, for M.Sc in Financial Management Technology and Management Technology candidates must possess O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics Economics and any two subjects from Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Geography.

Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Architecture

This will include successful completion of the programme of study leading to the award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Architecture from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, or from another university accredited by the National Universities Commission and recognized by the Senate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Prospective candidates must have at least a Second Class Lower Division in addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the postgraduate School.

In addition to fulfilling the requirements above, a holder of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Architecture must also have credit level passes in FIVE subjects including English, Physics, Mathematics, and any two subjects from: Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Land Surveying, Building Construction and Economics.

M.Sc in Optometry

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Optometry programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’ Level Credit Passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry

  1. A Doctor of Optometry (O.D) degree with a minimum of 2.50 CGPA on a 5-point scale or 2.50 CGPA on a 4-point scale in the related area from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. Completion of one year internship programme and NYSC programme

M.Sc in Gender Studies

Candidates applying for the Master of Science (M.Sc) in Gender Studies programme must possess any of the following:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) Upper Credit or above plus PGD in Gender Studies
  2. Bachelors Degree in the relevant discipline from FUTO or any other recognized University with at least a Third Class Honours plus a PGD in Gender Studies.
  3. A good Bachelors Degree with at least Second Class Honours in other related disciplines.

O’ LEVEL REQUIREMENT FOR GENDER STUDIES

O’ level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to any other three subjects as follows:

  1. Gender and Development Studies/Entrepreneurship (Economics, Government or History, Commerce, Geography)
  2. Gender and Science/Global Health (Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
  3. Gender and Technology (Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science)
  4. Gender and Agricultural Technology (Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Biology and Food Nutrition or Home Economics)

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

Candidates applying for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’ Level Credit Passes in English and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department:

  1. A good Honours Degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Management Technology from FUTO or from any other recognized University.
  2. Graduates with Bachelors degree from a recognized University with at least a third class qualification
  3. Higher National Diploma (HND) lower credit or above plus a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant field may apply for the MBA programme
  4. A Bachelors degree in other fields plus a PGD in a relevant field However, for MBA in Financial Management Technology and Management Technology, candidates must possess O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics Economics and any two subjects from Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Geography.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

Candidates applying for the PhD programme must possess any of the following in addition to O’ Level Credit Passes in English and Mathematics and satisfying the basic matriculation requirements of the Department/Institute:

  1. A Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 point scale or 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale or its equivalent in the relevant areas from FUTO or any recognized University
  2. Any other qualification as the University Senate may from time to time recognize/approve.
