Rivers university suspends lecturer over sex-for-grade scandal
Quote from Sunday on ,The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rivers State, has suspended one Dr. Samuel Abiye, of the Department of Curriculum Studies, for three months on half salary on allegation of sexual extortion for grade from one of his female students.
THISDAY gathered that Abiye was recorded by a female student who he allegedly promised to help to pass his course and all other courses taught by other lecturers in their department if she could grant him sexual gratification.
It was further gathered that Abiye directed the female student to meet him at the King James Hotels towards Eagle Cement area of Rumuolumeni, where she was to be explored sexually in exchange for grades.
Following the development and exposure, the university has directed that all courses taught by Abiye for the 1st semester of 2020/2021 be re-graded through conference marking to be supervised by the Dean of Education.
In an action statement by the Vice-Chancellor of IAUE, Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, added that “all his (Abiye) courses and supervisees have been reassigned to other lecturers in his department.
“The matter has been referred to the University Staff Disciplinary Committee for further investigation to determine his fate.
“We are determined to keep our little corners tidy,” Ndimele assured.
