even though there have been several meeting before the industrial action in Nigerian Polytechnics, the strike just expose the strength of the meeting, of which it has not be going smoothly among the parties involved. Below are the top 6 demands of ASUP
- Non implementation of the NEEDS Assessment report for 2014
- Non release of their revitalization money
- Non release of their 10 months arrears of minimum wage even though presidency has issued ordered for the payment since 2019
- Non payment of salaries for some state owned institutions with a cumulative owning of about 5-24 months, the states include: Abia, Ogun, Osun,Edo, Benue and Plateau
- Non implementation of the 65 years retirement age by some state government like Kano and the appointment of unqualified persons as rector s of the polytechnics for some states.
- Reconstitution of governing councils
The ASUP president claims that "Federal Polytechnics of Nigeria has been running without governing councils since May last year of which is odd and unacceptable in academician world." The ASUP president, want the council to be reconstituted.
