8 Reasons Why Candidate Fail 2015 Agricultural Science WAEC Practical

Agricultural Science practical session often regarded as a bonus package by qualified teachers when preparing the students, however, due to persisting negligence and poor adherence to rules among others have been the Reasons Why Candidate Fail 2015 Agricultural Science WAEC Practical

The candidates were unable to:

  1. highlight the benefits of including specimen E (Cowpea) in a crop rotation programme;
  2. state the botanical names of specimens G (Goat weed), H (Sida weed), l (Spear grass), J (Elephant grass) and K (Pig weed);
  3. give reasons why specimens l (Spear grass), J (Elephant grass) and K (Pig weed) are difficult to control;
  4. mention the problems that may result from a poorly maintained specimen S (Knapsack sprayer);
  5. list the protective devices that should be worn by a farmer when using specimen S (Knapsack sprayer);
  6. state the precautions that should be taken when using specimen S (Knapsack sprayer);
  7. outline the steps involved in processing specimens W (Paddy rice) and X (Groundnut seeds) into polished rice and groundnut cake respectively;
  8. mention the measures used in controlling specimen Y (Maize stem borer) on a farm.

WAEC recommendations for the candidates

The council pulled across the states the most appropriate recommendations that can be of great help to the students. Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  1. Aspects of the syllabus such as animal products/by products and their uses, weeds, processing of farm produce, maintenance of farm tools and equipment should be emphasized by teachers;
  2. Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools.

 Displayed Candidate’s Strengths

The candidates were able to:

  1. State the major feed nutrients contained in specimens A (Bone) and E (Cowpea);
  2. mention the economic uses of specimens A (Bone), B (Horn) and C (Hoof);
  3. state the functions of specimen D (Water) in farm animals;
  4. mention the uses of specimen J (Elephant grass);
  5. state ways in which specimens G (Goat weed), H (Sida weed), l (Spear grass), J (Elephant grass) and K (Pig weed) are of economic importance to farmers;
  6. state the uses of specimens P (Electric bulb), Q (Garden fork), and R (Hand trowel);
  7. state the ways in which specimen V (Earthworm) is important in Agriculture.
