The candidates were unable to:

  1. state the importance of specimen A (chicken egg)
  2. mention the products that could be obtained from specimen E (rabbit)
  3. calculate the expected kindling date for rabbit
  4. state ways of controlling ear mange in rabbits
  5. mention other organisms which have similar effects as specimen H (tick) on farm animals -mention the forms in which specimen J (Guinea grass) could be preserved
  6. state three qualities of the preserved forms of Guinea grass
  7. list the management practices that could be adopted to improve a pasture on which specimen J (Guinea grass) and K (Pueraria) are grown

Useful Recommendations

Having identified the peculiar reasons for failure, it isn’t enough if remedies are not provided, WAEC official enumerated tips that can safe other students from repeating similar problems, here are they….

Based on the observed weaknesses the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  1. Only competent graduates of Animal Science/Production should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools;
  2. Animal Husbandry should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory activities, field trips, excursions, etc
  3. Adequate facilities and textbooks on Animal Husbandry should be made
  4. available to enhance the teaching-learning of Animal Husbandry in Senior Secondary Schools.

Observed Students’ Strength

The candidates performed very well in the following questions:

  1. mention other farm animals from which specimens A (chicken egg), B (cattle horn) and C (cattle hoof) could be obtained
  2. state the functions of specimens B (cattle horn) and C (cattle hoof)
  3. list the products that could be obtained from specimen B (cattle horn)
  4. give the reasons for keeping specimen E (rabbit)
  5. mention the endoparasites and ectoparasites that could infest rabbit
  6. state the ways of controlling specimen G (rat) on an animal farm
  7. state the effects of specimen H (tick) on cattle
  8. state the ways of controlling tick
