2 Reasons Why Candidates Fail 2015 Commerce WAEC

In accordance to the data made available by the council, the reasons were highlighted as the reasons why Candidates fail 2015 Commerce WAEC.

1. Insufficient knowledge of the subject matter: Most of the candidates did not have good understanding and knowledge of the subject. As a result, they could not satisfactorily attempt some questions on “Ways the Central Bank contact the commercial Bank, ways to discharge a contract and calculation of discounts“.
2. Poor usage of English Language: Most candidates could not explain their points in clear and correct English grammar, thus they lost valuable marks.

WAEC Suggested Remedies

The following remedies were offered by the chief examiner in order to mitigate failure in the prospective candidates, carefully take a look!

1. The candidates should be encouraged to study standard and recommended text books on commerce in their preparation for the examination rather than relying on key-points
2. The teachers should endeavour to teach the candidates all aspect of syllabus. This will enable the candidates deepen their knowledge of the subject
3. Government and proprietors should endeavour to recruit qualified Business Education graduates to teach the subject. They should endeavour to train the teachers
4. The candidates should endeavour to learn the rules of English grammar so as to enable them express their points clearly

Candidate’s Strengths

The candidates shown appreciable effort in the questions that bordered on:

1. Candidates performed well in questions on ‘why supermarket is popular among shoppers, reasons for the presence of customs and excise authority at seaports and functions of airport authority which are in question 2(b), 4(a) and 4(b) respectively.
2. Candidates were able to define contract correctly which is in question 6(a).
3. Majority of the candidates were able to number and organize their work properly.
4. Few of the candidates observed the rubrics and attempted the required numbers of questions.
