  3. state the advantages and disadvantages of using biogas as a source of farm power;
  4. list common storage structures and processing structures found on farmsteads in West Africa;
  5. explain denitrification;
  6. discuss the cultivation of Cowpea;
  7. state the cultural methods of controlling crop pests;
  8. describe alley cropping and ley farming;
  9. calculate percentage unfertilized eggs, fertilized eggs, male and female chicks in an incubator;
  10. state the signs that indicate the approach of parturition in a cow;
  11. state the advantages of grafting;
  12. state the reasons why the prices of most agricultural produce are unstable in West Africa;
  13. explain agricultural extension methods such as method demonstration and agricultural shows;
  14. state the advantages of selection as a method of crop improvement.

Great Nuggets against Failing Agricultural Science in WAEC Theory 

Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  1. Aspects of the syllabus such as farm mechanization/Agricultural engineering, crop and animal improvement, agricultural extension amongst others should be emphasized by teachers; and
  2. Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools in West Africa.

The candidates performed very well in the following questions:

  1. mention ways in which non-governmental organizations contribute to agricultural development in West Africa
  2. mention the socio-economic uses of land
  3. explain ways by which soil organisms and soil texture affect agricultural production
  4. mention simple farm tools
  5. describe soil components such as mineral matter and organic matter
  6. name the method of propagation, disease and field pests of Cowpea
  7. state human activities that promote deforestation in West Africa
  8. mention the functions of a farm manager
  9. draw a demand curve
  10. explain the relationship between quantity demanded and price
  11. state the advantages of the wholesaler in marketing of agricultural produce
  12. discuss the rinderpest disease
  13. discuss the cercospora leaf spot disease
