  5. describe the natural process that takes carbon away from the atmosphere
  6. state the deficiency symptoms of calcium in crops
  7. differentiate between natural and artificial pastures
  8. state Mendel’s law of independent assortment of genes
  9. explain selection, breeding and introduction as methods of animal improvement
  10. explain the term farm inventory record
  11. state the roles of testosterone and progesterone in animal reproduction
  12. highlight the roles of agricultural extension in agricultural development in West Africa
  13. outline the problems faced by agricultural extension workers in West Africa.

Useful Recommendations

Based on the observed weaknesses the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  1. Aspects of the syllabus such as farm mechanization/Agricultural engineering, plant nutrients, crop and animal improvement, agricultural extension amongst others should be emphasized by teachers; and
  2. Only graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be allowed to teach the subject in Senior Secondary Schools.

  1. explain the term commercial farming
  2. mention agricultural produce used by canning, beverage industries and feed mill
  3. describe horizons A and D of the soil profile
  4. outline ways of replenishing plant nutrients in the soil
  5. list soil organisms
  6. discuss the cultivation of cassava under soil requirements, spacing, disease and pest
  7. explain the terms disease as used in crop production and regeneration as a forest management practice
  8. state the effects of deforestation
  9. explain the term animal nutrition
  10. state the functions of oestrogen in animal reproduction
  11. explain what is meant by ornamental plants
  12. state the vegetative methods that could be used to propagate ornamental plants
  13. define elasticity of demand
  14. explain the term collateral
  15. state the merits and demerits of the retailer
  16. list ways of preserving fish
  17. discuss the cultivation of groundnut under soil requirements, method of propagation and methods of storage
  18. mention field pests and storage pests of maize
